Teaching
Ethics for Nerds
Since 2015, I’ve co-developed and taught Ethics for Nerds, a course that brings philosophical ethics to computer science students — not as an afterthought, but as a core competency.
The course won the Hochschulperle des Jahres 2019 from the German Stifterverband, recognizing innovative approaches in higher education.

Policy & Advisory Work
Research on AI ethics carries responsibilities beyond the academic context — from informing governance and regulation to contributing to institutional ethics, advisory processes, and public discourse. I’ve been fortunate to engage at multiple levels:
Current Roles

- Advisory Member to the Saarländische Krebsgesellschaft e.V. (via Algoright)
- Ethics Advisor, DFKI Ethics Team (since 2023)
- Member, Ethical Review Board, Saarland Informatics Campus (since 2021)
- Member, Strategy Board, Saarland de:hub on AI (since 2024)
Past Roles
- Permanent Expert on Digital Ethics, Saarland State Parliament Enquête Commission on Digitalization (2020–2022)
- Member & Deputy Chairman, Commission for the Ethics of Security-Relevant Research, Saarland University (2019–2022)
Algoright e.V.
In 2018, I co-founded Algoright e.V., an interdisciplinary think tank for responsible digitalization. We focus on:
- Science communication: Making AI ethics accessible to the public
- Ethical consulting: Supporting organizations navigating AI governance
- Public events: Bridging research, policy, and civil society
Recent events include collaborations with the Landeszentrale für politische Bildung, the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), and the first TEDxSaarbrücken (June 2025, co-organized with DFKI and I²SC).
